What's the story about? (Long synopsis)
Light Me Up is a film about a couple struggling to start a family. After a series of miscarriages, Ivy and Josh are approaching a major milestone and hope is blossoming that this time they will get to keep their baby. But one morning Ivy wakes to discover something has gone terribly wrong. Alone in the house, she retreats into her fantasy world where she meets a sprite - the spirit of the child that could have been - who tempts her to disappear into her grief. While on his training run, Josh is suddenly hit by a sense of foreboding. He sprints back to their house and gathers Ivy into his arms. Ivy becomes aware of Josh’s presence calling her back to their lives and is faced with the choice - turn her back on the sprite and return to their marriage or live forever in the fantasy world of what could have been. Ultimately, Ivy chooses to return and connect with her husband, determined to start again. The film ends with this moment of courage and we know that the couple will get through this dark time.

Miscarriage, fertility issues and the loss of a child are sensitive subjects. How are we treating this material?
Satistically, miscarriage and other fertility issues are so rarely talked about. In fact we would go so far as to say they are actively avoided. As a society we seem to be woefully ill-equipped to talk about these experiences nor are we empowered to support those who are impacted by these tragedies. In making this film we understand that this story touches on painful issues. However we also know how deeply isolating it can be moving through this space alone. We are making this film to create a safe space, an opportunity for us to come together as a community, to see perhaps a part of our own journey reflected on screen, and hopefully to be a pathway to healing. We also want to open up conversation that allows for our community to better support each other through these hard times. We also recognise that is a deeply personal experience and we respect the right of any individuals to chose their own level of participation in this conversation. As filmmakers please know that we are approaching this story with humility, starting from our personal experiences, and want extend to our audience and all those affected by these tragedies all our love and compassion.
